Playing Experience: In his younger years Jerry played adult pick-up games around the Cedar Valley area as well as playing on a CV coaches Winter Iowa Games team.
Coaching Experience: Jerry has been coaching soccer with the CVSC since March of 1993. He has coached teams in the 8U thru 19U age groups which included an Iowa State Cup Championship team in 2001 with the CV U13 girls. He has been able to assist a number of players reach their goal of playing in college, from the Junior College level to Division I programs.
Jerry also served as the Vice President of the CVSC for 5 years and was the Cedar Falls Community Coaching Director within the CVSC for 4 years.
In addition to coaching soccer Jerry has coached numerous other sports. He coached football for 9 years. This included 1 year at Hudson High School as an assistant with the Fresh/Soph teams and did all the scouting for the varsity which finished 2nd in the state tournament. The other 8 years were in the Cedar Falls Junior High Schools which included a 9th Grade Metro Area Championship at Peet Jr High.
Jerry coached 4 years in the Tiger Girls and 9 years in the Tiger Boys basketball programs. This included a state runner-up finish in the Iowa State AAU 10th Grade Boys division. He also coached baseball for 7 years through the Cedar Falls Recreational Department and 5 years in the Iowa Baseball League.
Personal Bio: Jerry has lived in the Cedar Valley area all his life having attended school at Janesville (K-3) and Cedar Falls (4-12). He and his wife Kim have two children who both grew up playing soccer in the CVSC. Their son Ryan, his wife Adrianna, and their daughter Addie live in North Liberty where Ryan is an assistant coach with the Liberty High School girls’ soccer team. Their daughter Jessi and her husband KJ McQuerrey live in W Des Moines. Jessi was a member of the 2001 CVSC team that won the U13 Girls Iowa State Cup Championship. Jessi and KJ both played soccer at Central College in Pella. Ryan, Jessi, and KJ all still play soccer today in adult leagues and tournaments.
Jerry believes that the CVSC is more than just a soccer club but it’s a family. The players are more than just a number on a roster and our job is to not only teach them the game of soccer but help them with life skills as well. The CVSC is a fantastic place to learn the game of soccer and grow as a person. It is a super organization, has a great staff, and fantastic facilities.
Licenses / Coaching Education: Jerry graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a BA in Physical Education and a Coaching Endorsement. The degree includes an Iowa Teaching and Coaching License. He has a USSF “E” License, US Soccer 7v7 & 9v9 Grassroots Licenses, NSCAA Regional Diploma, NSCAA State Goalkeeping, & 5 NSCAA Professional Development Certificates. Jerry has also attended many coaching clinics and symposiums.
